about me

My name is Caroline Knight, and Artful Alchemy is my brand. I love to write, hence my 10-year career as a freelance writer and web designer.

I have been writing since I was a little girl, bringing imagination to life through colourful characters in my secret notebooks. To this day I am a true creative in a myriad ways, and I love to infuse my adult imagination into inspiring words and beautiful designs in my spare time. When I’m not writing for clients, I write on philosophical and psychological topics for my blog, compose poetry for my soon-to-be-published collection, and perform at spoken word events.

Why Artful Alchemy? The overarching theme of my life – and by extension, my work – is transformation. Suffice to say that life's challenges essentially forced me to master the art of transmuting energy into optimised outcomes. Although it has not always been a graceful journey, it has been the fuel for striking chords with others and telling great stories.

Another key thread in my life is authenticity. It wasn’t always a given for me, but it is now; I've found that life has a way of instilling its necessity. Diplomacy aside, pulling punches never really worked out, so in my writing I do the opposite - as artfully as possible.

I strive to write with honesty and integrity, diving deep into challenging topics and addressing thought-provoking perspectives without sugar-coating or pandering to cancel culture. My opinions are not always popular, but they are thoroughly considered and born of realism - I'm not a contrarian for the sake of it. Some of my greatest personal growth has been sparked by unfiltered "real talk" from others, as well as unpalatable personal experiences, so I do my best to ensure my reflections offer a similar catalyst for my readers.

I am more than just a writer

It is surely worth mentioning that my industry expertise goes deeper than writing and design. Project and event coordination and management are also strings in my bow, and in 2024 I organised Liverpool’s prestigious month-long literary festival, WoWFest 24, featuring 35 events with renowned authors, poets and musicians.

After that, I developed an annual programme of writing courses and workshops for aspiring writers in Liverpool. I am happy to be able to say that my work has empowered and supported other writers and contributed to the creative writing industry.

Artful ALCHEMY creations

I am all about expression through personal style, being a natural ‘Magpie’ and lover of life’s aesthetics. I adore fedora and trilby hats and silver jewellery, but I have always been attracted to unique and unusual styles. Rather than wait for someone else to come up with my ideal designs, I taught myself to make them. As it turns out, other people seemed to share my enthusiasm for the one-off designs in my signature style.

I developed quite a passion for this and for quite some time, I filled every spare moment making hats and jewellery. I still do, spare time permitting! However, natural progression saw me opening an online shop, and I sell my creations in person at artisan makers’ markets from time to time.

Sustainability is very important to me. That’s why I work with high-quality new materials as well as incorporating upcycled elements. It is so much fun to breathe new life into pre-loved components to create completely unique items. This approach not only reduces waste but makes my one-of-a-kind creations accessible at affordable prices. You can find my custom-designed fedora and trilby hats and handcrafted silver and glass bead jewellery in my Etsy store.
